About Mumbai Utkal Samiti…

s Let us sacrifice our today so that our children can have a better tomorrow."

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
Former President of India

In the year 1956 a group of like minded and dedicated people joined together to bring all Odias living in Mumbai on a common platform and to promote and popularize the rich culture and heritage of Odisha. They sowed a seed by the name “Bombay Utkal Samiti”, which has now grown into a huge banyan tree providing an unique identity to the odiya people in Mumbai city.
Mumbai Utkal Samiti got registered as a Public Trust in 1960. The Samiti has grown in status and popularity and has been successful in creating awareness amongst Mumbaiites about Odia culture and in promotion of universal brotherhood.
Mumbai Utkal Samiti has been successful in mobilizing support viz. physical, moral and financial assistance, from the local Odia and non-Odia people, other distinguished personalities, donors, well-wishers and the Govt. of Odisha and Govt. of Maharahstra. The Samiti has raised its head from a mud thatched room to a three storied building on its own land.
To cater to the educational needs of the under-privileged Odia people in the local slum communities the Samiti initiated with an Odia medium school. Currently the complete cost of education in the Odia medium is taken care by the Samiti.
To facilitate the lower middle class people with English education, the Samiti started an english medium School by the name “Mumbai Utkal English High School”, with in the affordable fees and high standard educational facilities. The High School is recognized by the Dept. of Education, Govt. of Maharashtra and has been recognized as a “Minority Educational Institution”. There are about 600 students studying in the school.
To reach out to more Prabasi Odia people in the Mumbai City and to involve them in the developmental activities, the Samiti has memberships, which gives an identity to the Prabasi Odia people, provides new horizons and expands its wings. All the Life members are having right to vote and elect the Governing Body (Managing Committee) every three years. Mumbai Utkal Samiti’s Managing Committee has been committed towards the overall development of the Samiti and the School.
We wish to have a very positive collaboration with you, to bring about change among those, who do have the skills and the talent in them to come up in their life, but only need a push to lift themselves.
